YASS KNOCKOUT 2009

Sydney University (plus Macquarie, UTS, UWS and many other randoms) are again going to join forces to enter teams in the Yass Knockout. Games take place over the Australia Day long-weekend and everyone is welcome to play.

WINTER COMPETITION UPDATE

With the amount of disruption that we have had due to the rain over this season, we have decided to review our plans for the remainder of the season.  The big winners from all of this are the players in the Student League, who are all going to get a few more games.

FRIDAY NIGHT TOUCH FOOTBALL

Due to the huge number of teams applying to play in our Monday Night competition, we have had to start another night to try and fit everyone in.

If you have a team and you are interested in playing on Friday Nights, please read on for more details.

GRAND FINALS AND LAST WEEK OF FRIENDLY'S

This coming Monday night will see the conclusion of the often interrupted Summer Competition.

Best of luck to Tuncurry Invitational, The Geckos, Steven Trugglers, Voltron Lion Force, Guff's Tiny Unicorns & Ian Thorpe's Touch Team.

Student League is on from 6.00pm, and Grand Finals are on at 6.45pm and 7.30pm.

2008 STUDENT LEAGUE TEAMS

With the Student League due to get underway on Monday night, we are happy to be able to announce the team lists for this season.

We have now filled all spaces in the Student League. If you are still interested in playing Touch, please add yourself to the Player Pool and we will do our best to find a team for you.

SUMMER FINALS & FRIENDLY'S

We have finally got to the end of our allocated timeframe for playing games in our regular season, and so it is now time to progress into the final series.

For the teams that have missed out (and also the teams who are knocked out next week), we would like to organise some extra games over the remaining two weeks to make up for the 2 weeks we have not been able to replay.

YASS 2008 - A MINI UNI GAMES

Yass is a knockout tournament that takes place over the Australia Day long weekend (26th and 27th January in 2008). It's a unique tournament where you can camp at the fields and have a few big nights on the drink whilst playing a little bit of Touch.

At the moment we look like we might have four teams similar to last year. That was Gecko’s, Ultimo Black Knights, Macquarie Uni Wombats and also a combined Women’s team. The beauty of Yass is that you can enter as either a Representative team or as a Park team and you are graded accordingly. The cost for the trip will be about $60 and this includes rego, referee levy, playing singlet and tent levy.

If you are interested then please reply and let me know by Monday 7th January. Any later than that and I may not be able to find a team for you.

Everyone is welcome and the tournament caters for all abilities. For all your Yass questions answered read on.

SUMMER COMPETITION - NOMINATIONS OPEN

Following the completion of our Winter Competition, we are happy to announce that our nominations for our Summer Competition have now opened.

If you are on your own (or a small group) you may wish to join the Player Pool - however be aware we cannot assure anyone that they will gain a place in a team if they sign up this way.

INTERFACULTY SPORT

Inter-Faculty Sport is a fun competition where you get to compete against other faculties within Sydney University. You may even meet a few new people from your course along the way.

Interfac Touch is run twice a year and the first session is on:

Wednesday 21st March
11-4pm @ The Square and St Johns

If you are interested then check out the SU Sport Interfac website and email your faculty rep before the day. We even have our own touch club members looking after Education, Pharmacy, and Cumberland teams this year.

Also if you want to referee on the day and earn a little bit of cash then email Victa@touch.asn.au and I will pass on your details.

SUMMER COMPETITION GRAND FINAL WRAP

When play got underway for the Grand Final of the Mixed Gold division, the light rain of the afternoon was still falling. By the start of the Mixed Blue match, we were well into the downpour of the season. We don't see many games played in the wet, but with the grounds kept open the opportunity to get the season wrapped up was not going to be missed.

The Zetland Zebras became the first team to complete an entire season without defeat, taking out the Grand Final against newcomers Heat 7-3. The Zebras held a narrow half-time lead of 4-2, but with the late arrival of their captain for the second stanza, were able to go on with it and finish the season with an unprecedented 16 wins in the season.

WINTER COMPETITION - NOMINATIONS OPEN

We are pleased to announce that we are now taking nominations for teams for our Winter Competition. For full details on the competition please follow the link Winter Competition in the Club Information section to the left.

You can download the information pack, nomination form, as well as a list of the full season dates for 2007/08.

WET WEATHER FORCES CHANGES TO THE FINALS

Unfortunately the wet weather over the weekend that has continued today has resulted in City of Sydney Council closing all grounds. As a result, the finals format will now be changed to allow the competition to conclude on the 26th February as originally scheduled.

SUMMER SEASON HEATING UP

With just two rounds remaining to be played in the Sydney University Touch Summer season, there is plenty of competition for a place in the finals.

In each there are six teams with a mathematical chance of making the four, and only the Zetland Zebra's  in the Mixed Gold have secured the minor premiership (although the Gecko's in Mixed Blue are strong favourites to take this out).

YASS 2007 - SET TO BE BIG

Yass is a knockout tournament that takes place over the Australia Day long weekend (27th and 28th January in 2007). It's a unique tournament where you can camp at the fields and have a few big nights on the drink whilst playing a little bit of Touch.

If you want to be a part of it then please get in touch with me by Wednesday 10th January. Email or call me and let me know if you want to play Men's/Women's or Mixed whilst down there. Everyone is welcome and the tournament caters for all abilities.

For all your Yass questions answered read on.

URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT - DRAW CHANGES FOR MONDAY NIGHT

This is an important announcement for all players participating in our Monday night Mixed competition.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, not all of the fields that we have booked are available for use at Jubilee Oval, Glebe. As a result, we have had to amend the scheduled draw for this round, and may need to do so for future rounds.

All team delegates have been emailed information to pass on to their players.

Lastly, there will be a FREE BBQ at the grounds this week. Please stick around after you've played and enjoy a sausage sandwhich. Cans of drink will be available for purchase for $1, and some of our representative players will be selling Melbourne Cup sweep tickets for $1 (giving you the chance at $1,000 prizemoney).

INTER-FACULTY TOUCH

Is Commerce smarter than Law? Are Arts better looking than Pharmacy? Can Science beat Engineering in a dance off?

These are question that we may never know, but to work out which Faculty is the best at Touch, we have the annual Inter-Faculty competition.

  • Date: Wednesday 17th May
  • Venue: St Johns/Square
  • Time: 12-4pm

If you are interested in playing then contact your Faculty Office to find out who your Sports Rep is. If they cant help then email Cath Feain at SU Sport.

If you are interested in refereeing for this event then see the message board for more details.

O-WEEK REGISTRATIONS - TEAM ALLOCATION COMPLETE

Following the massive amount of interest in the Monday night competition, Victa has finally managed to allocate all the students from O-Week across 9 teams!

To see which team you have been placed into, please read more.

RECORD NUMBERS FOR SOCIAL MIXED COMPETITION

Even after extending the competition to 4 time-slots, the Winter competition is looking likely to be bursting at the seams!

With 19 confirmed team nominations received as at 5.30pm on Thursday (a day before the official close off) we are in a position where we may have to turn teams away. We are yet to allocate the student registrants from O-Week into teams (which we expect will take about 8 teams).

Rest assured we are looking into ways to accommodate as many teams as possible - more information will follow soon.

YASS 06 - THE OTHER 'MINI' UNI GAMES

Sydney University is once again sending teams down to Yass for the annual tournament over the Australia day long weekend (28-29th Jan).

Read on and all your questions will be answered.

Team Lists Now available

UNDIES, HE-MAN AND BLACK KNIGHTS VICTORIOUS

The second semester Wentworth Park Competition has come to an end with Victories for Pink Undies, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, and Ultimo Black Knights.

All three finals were of a high standard and all victories were well deserved. The most thrilling game was the first division final that went into extra time. In the drop off, the Black Knights were able to score off the tap and then defend the next set of six to prevent CSU Bears from winning their fourth successive premiership.

Congratulations to all teams in the finals and a big thankyou to all teams that participated in this competition. It is a great social competition that is played in great spirit each week. Finally thankyou to all the referees that have helped officiated games in this competition. It is a thankless task that you do well each week

Final results
Div 3: Pink Undies def Autobots, 10-8
Div 2: He-Man and the masters of the Universe def UTS Lizards, 7-5
Div 1: Ultimo Black Knights def CSU Bears, 6-5

THE MEXICAN DOES GOOD

The Victorian based "Australian" Mens and Womens teams did battle last weekend in the Inaugural Victorian Touch Association Trans-Tasman Challenge.

The Aussie teams took out the series 5-1 and our very own Jono Rooke was named Mens MVP for the competition.

Congratulations Squirrel on this fantastic effort! It is a just reward for all the time and effort that you have put into developing your game.

For the full story see the Touch Football Australia Website.

CSU BEARS COULD MISS OUT ON MAKING THE FINAL 6

In what would be one of the biggest falls from grace witnessed in recent sporting history, the CSU Bears this week face the possibility of missing their first finals campaign since the teams inception.

If results were to go against the Bears, they could find themselves in 7th position, and booking themselves an earlier than expected "tipsy tuesday".

SEMESTER 2 - REGISTRATIONS STILL OPEN

The Semester 2 Competition will get underway on 25th July, and there are still a number of vacancies for Mixed teams to enter.

If you are considering entering a team, you need to contact us urgently.

Read More to see what teams have already confirmed their place.

SEMESTER 2 COMPETITION - INFORMATION PACK AVAILABLE NOW

After a short break, we're ready to get our Monday Night Mixed competition back up and running.

Nominations for teams are now open - anyone interesting in entering a team can download an information pack from this website.

Entries close on Wednesday 13th July.

DO OR DIE TIME IN FINAL ROUND OF MONDAY NIGHT TOUCH

With just one week left to play in the Sydney University Mixed Touch competition, there are a number of teams whose fate will be decided by the results of other matches next week.

The most amazing story is that of Tribe in the Mixed Blue competition, who last night knocked off competition favourites the CSU Bears to keep their season alive. A loss last night would have seen last Winters Div 3 winners out of the top 4.

MONDAY NIGHT COMPETITION

Next Monday night will see the commencement of the second Semester competition at Wentworth Park. After signing up over 70 students at O-Week, we've had a hell of a time putting the teams together, but hope that you will all enjoy yourselves once the competition gets underway.

For all those who have signed up in O-Week, please read more to find out which team you've been placed in. If your name does not appear and you feel that it should, then please contact Gary on 0414644879 as a matter of urgency and we'll see what we can do.

If you'd like to check out the draw, then please use the Draws & Ladder option to the left.

Next week, Victa will be in charge - if you need to contact him please call on 0414535066 after 3.30pm.

GRAND FINAL DAY

Tommorrow will see the conclusion of our Social Competitions for 2004 with the Final Series for Mixed 2nd & 3rd divisions starting at 11.40am and 9am respectively.

The Grand Finals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd division are set to tap-off at 3.40pm, 2.50pm, and 2pm respectively.

All games will be played at St John Oval, The University of Sydney.

MATCH OF THE ROUND PREVIEW / BEER OLYMPICS WRAP

In what is certain to be one of the games of the domestic season, this Monday night sees the Touch Wood franchise in its toughest battle yet - a local derby with so much on the line, with each team looking to ensure they will be there at the business end of the season.

TOUCH WOOD ''YAKS'' TEAM WEBSITE

I just happened to stumble across this marvelous piece of work this evening while looking through the server logs...

The Touch Wood "Yaks", a team playing in the Mixed Gold division on Monday nights, have their own website with all the banter and commentary we've come to expect from the Touch club!

FINAL SERIES FORMAT

For all those teams playing in the Monday night competition, details for the upcoming Final Series are now available.

The Grand Finals for both the Blue & Gold competitions will be conducted on the night of 7th June. For the series format, read more.

SOCIAL TOUCH & FREE BBQ

This Friday 26th is the first social touch session for our club members. This year we are having a number of social days at the square where all members of the club are welcome to attend and have bit of a social game or two.

There is also a Free BBQ & cheap drinks afterwards. Click read more to find out.

MIXED COMPETITION - ROUND 2 PREVIEW

After an enjoyable first week with only minor teething problems, the scene is set for an interesting second round to the Social Mixed competition.

Round 2 will see the first round winners Stackhat Kids take on the mighty Wombats, who showed some good form against the CSU Bears last week.

There are sure to be some fireworks in the Squirrel Grippers vs Vet Threat when the Dentists take on the Veterinarians - I hope there are some Med students around to care for the injured...

I anticipate a close match, the Squirrels to get up on the bell.

MONDAY NIGHT MIXED COMPETITION

The draw for next Monday is now available from the Competitions section of this site. After each weeks games the results and ladder will be updated here.

Listed below are the current team sheets for the 11 teams entered. We are extremely pleased with the response for our first competition, and look forward to meeting you all over the coming weeks.

BATTLE OF THE LIONS

In conjunction with the opening of Tempe Reserve, Sydney University Sport has invited the Club to conduct a session on one of the fields on Sunday 30th November.

Not to disappoint, we've lined up an all University, all Lions affair - Sydney University Mixed Open vs. University of NSW Mixed Open - in a State Cup trial match.

SYDNEY UNIVERSITY SOCIAL COMPETITION

In 2003 Sydney University Touch Club will be conducting a Social Competition for it's members. The format of the competition will be a series of 4 carnival Sunday's with a number of matches played on each day.

IT'S A KNOCK-OUT!

The Yass KO is fast approaching, and we want to get two teams there this year. So far the Central Coast mob are entering again, and this year we want our City cousins to head south with us for 2 days of debauchery and craziness, with a bit of Touch played in between.

RESULTS FROM MONDAY'S TOUCHFEST

Well what a great day for Touch... the sun was shining, the birds were chirping, and the Touch was sensational.

The SUWSA invitational match was played at just after 1pm. Unfortunately for the SUWSA team, they were a bit short on numbers, but the depth of talent from the Touch club gave them a helping hand.

MENS INTER-FACULTY TOUCH

As well as the Ann Mitchel Challenge (previous Story) Monday 5th August is also the date for the Mens Interfaculty Touch Competition.

TOUCH CLUB TO TAKE ON SUWSA

As part of the celebrations for the 92nd Birthday of the Sydney University Womens Sports Association, the club has been invited to field a team to play the Ann Mitchell Golden Selection.

STUDENT LEAGUE SEMI FINALS

The finals series for the student league competition will get underway with Semi Finals on Monday 22nd June and the Grand Final on Monday 29th June.

Semi Final 1: Golden Showers V Brown
Semi Final 2: Hulk v Green Gumby's

Winner will progress through to the Grand Final
