GO SMOKEFREE FOR REAL
This is taken from the Cancer Council NSW website.Don't back down. Enclosed areas in pubs and clubs should all be smokefree!
Last year, after an intensive eight-month campaign by The Cancer Council NSW and its allies, Premier Bob Carr announced that indoor areas in NSW pubs and clubs would be totally smokefree by 2007. However just when the 26,000 NSW residents who supported the Go Smokefree campaign thought they could relax, the hotel industry is putting pressure on the government to back down on its promise. They want to call many enclosed areas "outdoors", meaning smoking can continue.
They essentially want a room, which is as little as 25% open (i.e. a room missing a wall) to be defined as "unenclosed" or "outdoors".
Any reasonable person would suggest that if an area has a roof, it should be smokefree – that's commonsense.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL
To everyone that made this year great. Hope that you all have a happy and safe Christmas, along with a massive new year.I hope that everyone enjoyed the year, from Yass to Jingle Bowls, and everything in between. It has been a busy year and at the same time lots of fun. Stay safe and see all of you in Yass or at some other touch function.
THE CONVICTED CRIMINAL MAKES WAY FOR NEW BLOOD
Gary 'Criminal' Reynolds has recently announced his retirement as president of Sydney University Touch Club. Gary was responsible for forming the Sydney Uni Men’s Touch Club in 1999 and subsequently merging the Men’s and Women’s clubs in 2000. From the merger Gary undertook the position of president and has remained there for the last 5½ years, during which time he has built the club into what it is today.
Gary has played an enormous role in building the club from scratch and his departure will allow for Yoni Charlupski to succeed him. Yoni was unanimously elected by the club committee to fill the vacated position.
Read on for a history of Gary’s achievements as club president over the last few years.
Stay tuned for details of a retirement dinner in mid December
