ASIAN TOUCH CHAMPIONSHIPS, MALAYSIA - JUNE 2007

In June of 2004 Sydney University Touch sent a Mixed team (pictured) to Singapore for the Asian National Championships and had the privilege of playing International teams such as Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, NZ Universities and NZ Academy to name a few.

To this day it is still one of the best trips that we have undertaken as a club and this year we have the opportunity to provide you with a chance to enjoy something just as fantastic.

The 2007 Asian Championships tournament is in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on June 9th & 10th and Sydney University Touch club is looking at sending a Mixed team on tour to participate.

The expected costs of the tournament are as follows:

Flights (inc tax)

$800 BestFlights
Accommodation $230 6 nights twin-share
Thu 7th to Tue 12th June
Tournament $70
Uniforms $50
Transfers $50
Total $1200

This amount is for 7 days/6 nights, includes breakfast daily, and transfers to and from the field each day.

This amount is also before any fundraising or subsidy from Sydney University Touch, after which the price should be below $1000. Considering that a week in Perth or Adelaide for University Games cost the same, it is a great value trip.

Accommodation is based at the four-star Eastin Hotel. Not only is this close to the playing fields, but it is also a very cheap 12km taxi trip to the heart of KL.

It should provide a great base for sightseeing after the tournament is over. Some attractions include shopping, food festivals and an interesting nightlife.

One of the best things about playing touch whilst on tour is that not only do you get to travel with a group of mates, but you also get to meet other teams and spend some time travelling with them - a fantastic opportunity considering we will be playing against people that live in Malaysia.

Whilst the trip takes place just before StuVac, there is still a fair bit of interest and things are looking positive for a Sydney University Touch team to have its second international tour.

If you want to join Crim and myself and be a part of it then please let me know as soon as possible. I need final numbers and a $400 deposit by the end of the month, however don't wait that long to let me know if you are interested!

If there is enough interest then we may need to hold a trial to select the team.

This event is fully sanctioned by the Federation of International Touch and not only that but the Director of Referees for the tournament, Ian Matthews, will ensure that quality referees will be used throughout the tournament.

So don't delay and get back to me if you are interested - the more notice I have the easier it will be to organise some fundraising to get the tour costs down.
